You can do this “trick”, too… what your friend did was let you TELL him your card (now he knows where it is, then when he dealt out the rows and had you “pick” a row (since he already knew where “your” card was) he made the decision whether to “keep” or “discard” the rows or piles you picked depending on whether your card was there.

When i started to write this I was going to tell you how to do this…. But then i thought no… The illusion is in not knowing… Believe me cause i used to do magic etc, the real effect is in being amazed… You will probably be able to google the secrets behind every great magic trick/illusion that was ever devised…. But my advice to you is don’t… Keep that little bit of child innocence and be wondered by what you think you see….

He put them 4×4, and asked u to tell him what pile the card was in. Am i right?
Then, because the piles were vertical, he collected the cards and put the piles horizontally. Remember that each card in the pile u told him that your card was in is separated, so he can be 100% sure when you tell him what pile it is in this time. Now, he remembers where the card is and does the 4 pile thingy. If you pick the pile with your card, he does not discard it, but he keeps it and discards the opposite pile(s). If the pile(s) that you chose DO have the card, he keep them. This goes on until your card is left. Hope you get it, it’s a confusing trick.
