magic trick
JellyCat asked:

I always felt that a parent should know a magic trick or two, that and how to make balloon animals..

Is this trick hard?

Oh that’s really cute. What a nice parent ^^

Simply hide the coin in your hand, perhaps between your fingers, and roll it into your palm when it’s behind your child’s ear. I think that’s how it works, I’ve never been too good at magic >

  2. First, you have to cut a slit into the victim’s skull without them knowing to hold the coin. This can be done with power tools while they are sleeping, or use hypnosis to place them into a catatonic state.

Actually, the trick uses the basic technique of “palming”, where you conceal an object in your hand yet keep the hand in a normal, relaxed looking state. Palming is used to make all sorts of things appear and disappear such as cards and coins.

In this case, the coin is held between the middle two fingers in such a way that if you showed your palm empty to the child you cannot see the coin. Bring your hand palm-first toward the ear (so the still can’t see the coin), bend your fingers and drop the coin into your palm. Voila!

A natural extension of this trick would be to use a bucket to collect the coin. Holding a bucket with your other hand, you have also been hiding a bunch of coins in that palm. Magic buckets can be obtained with coins loaded in decorative finials, so as you “toss” the coin toward the bucket held in your other hand you hear a clunk of the coin hitting the bottom as you release a hidden coin. But since this is magic, you never actually let the coin go from the first hand you’ve palmed it in, you’ve just made a tossing motion and palmed the coin again.
