In fact, there are some therapists who use hypnosis successfully with their clients to treat various issues. Hypnosis is also sometimes used in magic acts, and in those cases, it's doubtful whether the results are really real. As for where to look for resources on this, I can't tell you. But I doubt that you'll find anything that really explains hypnotism in an irrefutable way. Whenever you're dealing with the human mind, it's pretty difficult to prove that things such as hypnotism are truly occurring. You pretty much either have to believe it, or not.
