He fought his illness for days, but at last, he told his wife that he thought it was going to beat him. He died October 31, 1926. Some see significance in his dying on Halloween. It hasn't been the most popular, but even when it was, it's tough to screw up. Much more dangerous was the time they tied Houdini in a burlap sack, placed that in a padlocked and chained shut chest, and dropped it through a hole in the ice of a wintry river.
