card trick
Dave C asked:

So my friend was doing this card trick and i have know idea how he does it and i want to know if anybody knows how he does it… Ok, so he will lay out anywhere from 6 to 10 cards facing up, or facing down it doesnt matter. Then he asks me or to think of a card in my head that is down there. Then he will go through and pick out the card that i am thinking of every time. He even did it with 20 cards once. I do not have to touch the cards, and all the cards are different, there are no cards that are the same. How does he do it???

Additional Details

Ok, So in this card trick, my friend did not ask me which row it was in. All he would do, is either fling each card off the table and leave mine, or take a few off the table at one time, and then give me my card. He never asked me which row it was in or anything. There was no questions asked.
oh, and he can go into the other room when i think of the card that is layed out. I will not even look my card or any other card and he can still tell me wich card i picked.

Ok well I used know how to do these pretty neat card trick that a girl taught me about 8 years ago or so. It involved having a deck of 52 cards(No Jokers in it) and cutting the deck 8 times total, 1 cut at a time. Well you could either do the cuts yourself or have someone who is watching do the cuts themself . When you cut the deck you always take the buttom of the cut and place it on the top of the Deck. After that, you start laying the cards out 1 by 1 into 13 piles. After that you should have 13 stacks of 4 cards in each stack. When you flip over each stack it should have all 4 suits of that number in it(Exp: all the suits of the number 4 next stack should be all the suits of the number 5) and it should continue that way throu all 13 stacks. Now I dont know if I am doing some step wrong or am forgetting a step? This trick has no explanation it just always worked if cut and placed correctly. If anyone has heard of this and knows what im doing wrong please help=),
Ok well I dont think you understand or I didnt post correctly, its called a trick but technically its not a trick, its just some strange mathimatical thing that works with cards.

card trick

The effect of the trick:

The spectator cuts an ordinary pack of cards in two, chooses a card, memorises it and returns it to the pack. They then magically locate their chosen card just by dealing the cards into piles, discarding some along the way until they’re left with only one card - theirs!

Before you begin the trick:

Practice cutting the pack so that you’re fairly accurate in getting two equal or near equal halves. Also practice your dialogue well beforehand so that you can run through your instructions to the spectator smoothly.

Here’s how it’s done:

Give the pack of cards to the spectator and ask them to shuffle them.

You say: “Now cut them exactly in half if you can.”

It might be difficult for them to do this, so after they’ve made the cut you can try and even up the piles by moving a few from one pile to the other, saying that they maybe need a little help to get the cut more exact.

Note: the key to this trick is that the cut must be within four cards of the centre.

You say: “Take a card from anywhere in either pile, memorise it and place it on top of its pile. Now put the other pile on top so that it’s lost within the deck.”

You say: “Now deal the top four cards face down in a row on the table and keep dealing them until you have four piles.”

After the spectator has dealt the four piles, you turn over each pile and spread it out so that all the cards are face up and on view.

Ask the spectator to point to a pile which they think contains their chosen card. You turn that pile face down and discard the other 3 piles.

The remaining pile should contain 13 cards and ask the spectator to deal this pile into yet another four piles on the table. Note: when this is done the last card dealt should be on the first pile. So ….

You say: “This pile is obviously uneven so we’ll discard it.”

You now have three piles left - each should contain three cards.

Note: the middle card of the middle pile is their chosen card.

Ask the spectator to discard the top and bottom cards of each pile. There are now just three cards left.

Pick up these three last cards (from left to right) and give them to the spectator face down. Ask the spectator to again discard the top and bottom card from the pile in their hand.

You say: “Now tell me your chosen card.”

Ask them to turn over and hold up the last card in their hand - it’s their chosen card!
